About this place
Originally a fortified Hakka walled village built by the Chan clan in 1786, the Sam Tung Uk Museum is a meticulously restored declared monument spanning 2,000 square meters. Symmetrically designed like a chessboard with traditional halls, courtyards, and narrow lanes, this peaceful village-turned-museum is now home to the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre. Families visit to step away from modern skyscrapers, wander the historic village lanes, and engage with vibrant, child-friendly multimedia exhibits showcasing traditional local crafts like lion dance head making, lantern crafting, and traditional toy culture.
