About this place

Built inside the last surviving 1950s Mark I H-shaped resettlement block, the Heritage of Mei Ho House is a privately run museum that displays the evolution of public housing and grassroots community life in Hong Kong from the 1950s to the 1970s. Families can walk through highly immersive exhibits, explore recreated nostalgic living spaces, and help children understand the historical roots of local life.

Things to know

Stroller Friendly

The venue is fully accessible with lifts, ramps, and accessible toilets, making it highly stroller-friendly.

Beat the Heat

Because the exhibition is indoor and well air-conditioned, it makes an excellent, free rainy-day activity or a place to escape the summer heat.

Flexible Exploration

Families can explore at their own pace. There is no pressure to follow a tour, but children who enjoy storytelling may like the free public tours.

Combine with Garden Hill

Right behind the hostel is a path leading up to Garden Hill. If your kids are old enough to climb stairs, head up at sunset for a beautiful panoramic view of Kowloon.
