Hong Kong Science Museum
Busy times
About this place
Established in April 1991, the Hong Kong Science Museum is a premier educational destination in Kowloon. Spanning four floors with 6,500 square meters of permanent exhibition space, it features over 500 exhibits. Remarkably, nearly 70% to 80% of these displays are fully interactive and hands-on, allowing kids to touch, play, and experiment. Families flock here to experience the 22-meter-tall twin-tower Energy Machine (the largest of its kind globally), climb inside a real DC-3 airliner, explore realistic, moving dinosaur models, and let younger children play in the immersive Children's Gallery.
Things to know
Strict Height Limits
The Children's Gallery (3rd floor) is reserved for children under 160 cm in height (must be accompanied by an adult). The popular 'Big Kids' Work Site' construction exhibit is strictly limited to children between 80 cm and 120 cm.
Stroller Restrictions
While strollers can be used to navigate the main galleries, they are strictly prohibited inside the Children's Gallery (3rd floor). Parents must park them in designated stroller parking zones or deposit them at the G/F cloakroom.
Energy Machine Show Times
The central, multi-story Energy Machine runs on a schedule (typically at 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 5:00 PM daily). Secure a spot around the central atrium a few minutes early to watch the balls drop!
No Food or Drinks
Eating and drinking are strictly prohibited inside all exhibition halls. There are no dining facilities directly inside the museum building, so ensure your children have eaten beforehand.
