About this place

Built in 1984 to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Urban Council, this public park is a lush, 4.5-hectare green oasis in Tsim Sha Tsui East. It features beautiful landscaped gardens, two large water fountains, and a public children's playground. Families can enjoy a scenic, open space to run, slide, and climb, while discovering six historic Greek-style stone columns salvaged from the former Kowloon-Canton Railway station.

Things to know

Beating the Heat

Due to high humidity and intense midday sun, the best times to visit are early in the morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:00 PM).

Pack the Essentials

There are no major convenience stores directly inside the park, so parents should pack water, sun protection, and mosquito repellent (especially between April and October).

Weather Policy

Check the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) app before leaving. The playground is fully outdoor and clears out immediately during Amber rainstorm warnings or higher.

Dog Policy

If visiting with pets, note that dogs are strictly restricted to a narrow 200-meter designated pet corridor/pathway. Dogs are not allowed in the main playground or general garden areas.

Good to know

Is there an entrance fee for the playground?
No, both the Urban Council Centenary Garden and its children's playground are entirely free public facilities open to everyone.
Is the playground suitable for toddlers?
While younger toddlers can use the space under close supervision, some parents note that the climbing structures and slides are better suited for slightly older, active children.
Can we bring our family dog to the playground area?
No. Dogs are strictly barred from the playground and lawns. There is only a narrow, designated pet-friendly corridor running through the park for walking dogs on a leash.
Are there changing tables or diaper facilities on-site?
There are public restrooms in the park, but they lack dedicated baby-changing rooms. Parents typically utilize changing facilities in neighboring shopping malls (like Peninsula Centre or Hilton Towers).
Is there shade at the play structures during midday?
The playground itself has very limited overhead shade and gets incredibly hot during midday. It is highly recommended to visit during early mornings or late afternoons.
