About this place

Nestled inside the sprawling 13.3-hectare Kowloon Park, this outdoor play destination consists of two main areas: a standard Children's Playground with modern climbing frames and slides, and a unique Discovery Playground built on a hill from restored British military fortifications and cannon emplacements. It is a popular urban retreat where families can combine playtime with a leisurely stroll to see the park's famous resident pink flamingos, aviary, and maze garden.

Things to know

Restroom Renovation Alert

The Discovery Playground Toilet is temporarily closed for major renovation works from May 18, 2026, to October 31, 2026. Parents should plan to use other public toilets in the park, such as those inside the nearby Sports Centre or Swimming Pool complex.

Beat the Heat

As an entirely outdoor facility, the playground can get intensely humid and hot during midday. The best window for play is early morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:00 PM).

Pack the Essentials

Bring mosquito repellent (critical from April to October due to lush vegetation), sun hats, sunscreen, and a change of clothes for sweaty kids.

Limited Onsite Food

Food choices within the park are restricted to automated vending machines (accepting Octopus) and a McDonald's dessert kiosk. However, the park's central location in Tsim Sha Tsui means you are a 5-minute walk from family-friendly restaurants.

Good to know

Is there an admission fee to access the playgrounds?
No, admission to both the Children's Playground and the Discovery Playground is completely free, as they are public facilities maintained by the Hong Kong Government.
What is the difference between the two playgrounds in the park?
The standard Children's Playground is a flat area paved with safety matting containing classic equipment like swings, slides, and climbing frames. The Discovery Playground is a unique play zone built on a historic knoll around old British gun emplacements and forts, featuring castle turrets and cannons for older, more adventurous children to climb.
Are there baby-changing facilities nearby?
Yes, public restrooms in the park contain basic changing facilities. However, note that the restroom closest to the Discovery Playground is closed for renovation until October 31, 2026. Other restrooms in the park are still fully operational.
Where can we park if the onsite sports centre lot is full?
Because the onsite lot has only 18 spaces, it is almost always full. Parents recommend parking at nearby commercial shopping malls, such as Harbour City, The ONE, or China Hong Kong City.
What else is there for kids to do in Kowloon Park besides the playgrounds?
Kids love visiting the Bird Lake to see the large flock of pink flamingos, exploring the Maze Garden, spotting exotic birds at the Aviary, or watching the free Kung Fu and Lion Dance performances held every Sunday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
