About this place

This is a free, public outdoor playground and sports facility managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. Located in the rural San Wai Village of Fanling, it offers a small, quiet space with basic children's play equipment and a single floodlit outdoor basketball court. Families typically visit for a casual play session, a quick game of basketball, or as a relaxed rest stop while exploring the historic walled villages and temples along the heritage trail.

Things to know

Bring Essentials

Because of its rural village setting, there are no retail shops or convenience stores adjacent to the playground. Parents should pack plenty of water, snacks, sun protection, and mosquito repellent.

Beat the Heat

To avoid extreme summer heat and humidity, the best windows for children to play comfortably are early in the morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late in the afternoon (after 4:00 PM).

Combination Trip

This destination is small and simple. It is best enjoyed when combined with a family walk along the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail to see historic walled villages, ancestral halls, and temples.

Transformative Upgrades

The playground has been earmarked by the LCSD for future transformation under its Public Play Space plans, aiming to design more creative and inclusive play facilities.

Getting here

By MTR

Take the MTR to Fanling Station. From Exit A4, the playground is approximately a 30-minute walk, though taking public ground transport is highly recommended.

By Bus

Take Green Minibus 56C from Fanling Station, or take bus routes 78K or 79K and get off at Lung Yeuk Tau or Suen Douh Camp. Minibuses 503, 503K, and 56B also stop nearby.

By car

Drive via Sha Tau Kok Road (Lung Yeuk Tau). Since there is no public parking on-site, drivers must locate public parking lots in the nearby Fanling or Luen Wo Hui area.

By Walking

Easily accessible on foot along the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail. The playground is situated near Suen Douh Camp and San Wai Village (Kan Lung Wai).

Good to knowGeneral guidance , know this venue? add detail

Is there a fee?
No. Public playgrounds in Hong Kong are free to enter and run by the LCSD.
What ages is this best for?
Most LCSD playgrounds suit ages 2 to 12, with separate toddler and older kid equipment. The exact setup varies by site.
Are there toilets nearby?
Usually yes. Most LCSD parks have public toilets within a five minute walk, and the nearest MTR station is a good backup.
What is the best time to go?
Mornings before noon are cooler and quieter, and late afternoon after the school rush works well too. In summer, avoid roughly noon to 3pm.
