About this place

Tung Kok Wai Children's Playground is a small, outdoor public playground managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. Nestled in a rural village environment within the historic Tung Kok Wai walled village neighborhood in Fanling, it serves as a wonderful brief recreational stop. Families, hikers, and local residents exploring the 2.6 km Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail often stop here to let children play or to enjoy a quiet break under the covered pavilion.

Things to know

Mosquito and Bug Protection

The playground is located in a rural, agricultural area surrounded by lush vegetation and local fields. Insect repellent is highly recommended, especially between April and October.

Sun Protection & Hydration

As an entirely outdoor, open venue, parents should bring sun hats, sunscreen, and ample drinking water. Shaded seating is limited mostly to the small covered pavilion.

Respect Village Privacy

The playground sits directly adjacent to a residential, historical walled village. While tourists are welcome to admire the historical entrance tower, the interior of the village is private residential property. Please keep noise to a minimum and respect local residents.

No Onsite Stores

There are no major convenience stores, supermarkets, or public restrooms directly inside the play area. A public toilet exists in the neighboring village area, but it is best to pack your own snacks and waste bags.

Getting here

By MTR

Take the East Rail Line to Fanling MTR Station and exit on the eastern side. From there, board Green Minibus 54K to the trailhead, or walk directly to the start of the Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail (approx. 20 to 25 minutes).

By Bus

Take bus routes running along Sha Tau Kok Road (such as KMB routes 78K or 79K departing from Sheung Shui or Fanling) and alight at the junction nearest to Lung Yeuk Tau. Walk approximately 10 to 15 minutes into the heritage trail path to reach Tung Kok Wai.

By car

Drive along Fanling Highway and exit towards Sha Tau Kok Road (Lung Yeuk Tau). Turn into the local village access road leading to Tung Kok Wai village and locate the village open-air car park near the entrance tower.

By Taxi

Catch a green New Territories taxi from the designated taxi rank at Fanling MTR Station directly to Tung Kok Wai. The drive takes roughly 5 to 8 minutes.

By Walking

If hiking the full Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail, the playground is located midway along the flat, paved trail, roughly 1.2 km from the Shung Him Tong starting point.

Good to knowGeneral guidance , know this venue? add detail

Is there a fee?
No. Public playgrounds in Hong Kong are free to enter and run by the LCSD.
What ages is this best for?
Most LCSD playgrounds suit ages 2 to 12, with separate toddler and older kid equipment. The exact setup varies by site.
Are there toilets nearby?
Usually yes. Most LCSD parks have public toilets within a five minute walk, and the nearest MTR station is a good backup.
What is the best time to go?
Mornings before noon are cooler and quieter, and late afternoon after the school rush works well too. In summer, avoid roughly noon to 3pm.
