About this place

Originally built in 1846 as the official residence of the Commander of the British Forces in Hong Kong, this Greek Revival heritage building is the oldest surviving colonial Western building in the city. Today, it serves as a specialized branch of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Families visit to explore a vast collection of antique ceramic teaware and Chinese seals, participate in tea ceremonies, and let children play in a dedicated tea-themed playroom, all nestled within the quiet greenery of Hong Kong Park.

Things to know

Dedicated Children's Playroom

The museum features a charming indoor playroom for young kids containing children's books, architectural building blocks, wooden tea-themed play sets, and interactive computer games like "Design a Teapot".

Stroller and Accessibility

The facility is stroller-friendly with step-free entry. There is a passenger lift on the ground floor of the K.S. Lo Gallery wing to help families navigate between levels. Accessible washrooms are also located on the ground floor.

Onsite Teahouse Dining

The LockCha Teahouse is located on the ground floor of the adjacent K.S. Lo Gallery, serving a large selection of traditional teas and family-friendly vegetarian dim sum.

Explore Hong Kong Park

Since the museum is inside Hong Kong Park, families can easily make a day of it by pairing the visit with the park's free Edward Youde Aviary, the children's playground, and scenic waterfalls.
