About this place

Waterloo Road / Canton Road Rest Garden is a small public urban open space managed by the LCSD. Families and local residents visit this pocket garden primarily to utilize its shaded benches, catch a brief breath of fresh air, and let younger toddlers burn off energy on the simple outdoor playground equipment in one corner. It sits directly across from the historic Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market and diagonally opposite the Yau Ma Tei Theatre.

Things to know

Watch for Traffic

The garden is located at a major, highly active intersection. Heavy commercial trucks and vans constantly serve the wholesale fruit market right across the road, particularly in the evening and night hours. Keep a very close eye on young children to prevent them from wandering toward the busy streets.

Check the Ground First

As an urban pocket park in an older, densely populated neighborhood, issues with loiterers have sometimes been flagged by local residents. It is highly recommended that parents do a quick visual safety check of the playground equipment (the slide area) for clean ground before letting children loose.

Prepare for Mosquitoes

The garden features mature trees and ornamental planters. While the LCSD actively coordinates pest control in the area, parents should still bring mosquito repellent, especially during wet or humid months.

No Direct Restrooms

There are no public toilets or baby-changing facilities directly inside this small garden. The nearest public facility is the public toilet located at the crossing of Shanghai Street and Waterloo Road, adjacent to the Yau Ma Tei Theatre.

Good to know

What kind of play equipment is available for kids here?
The park features very basic children's play equipment concentrated in one corner, primarily consisting of a simple plastic slide and climbing structure. It is not a large destination playground but a quick stop for a short play session.
Is the park clean and safe for children to play in?
While the park is regularly cleaned by government-contracted cleaners, its location in an older, heavily commercial neighborhood means occasional safety and sanitary concerns have been reported by locals (such as loiterers or unsafe litter). Parents are strongly advised to closely supervise children and check the play equipment beforehand.
Are there public restrooms or baby-changing rooms at the venue?
No, there are no public toilets or baby-changing rooms inside the rest garden. Parents can find the nearest public toilets at the junction of Shanghai Street and Waterloo Road (right next to the Yau Ma Tei Theatre).
Can we park a car directly at the rest garden?
No, there is no onsite parking or roadside parking directly at the park. Drivers will need to seek paid public parking in nearby commercial buildings, such as the parking garage at No. 8 Waterloo Road.
Is the park completely wheelchair and stroller accessible?
Yes, the park is designed with flat, hard-surfaced pathways and includes barrier-free access with tactile guide paths, making it easy to navigate with a stroller.
