About this place

King's Park Recreation Ground Playground is a creatively themed public park managed by Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). It is widely celebrated by local families for its imaginative space and outer space concept, featuring unique play zones modeled after moon craters, spacecraft, and dinosaur fossils. It offers an active outdoor escape surrounded by lush trees, shielding families from the surrounding city rush.

Things to know

Hilltop Location

The park sits on a hill (King's Park Rise). Walking up from the main streets involves a steep climb or stairs, which can be exhausting if pushing heavy strollers.

Mosquito Protection

Because the playground is nestled under dense, mature trees that provide excellent shade, mosquitoes can be active. Bringing insect repellent is highly recommended.

Limited Nearby Shops

It is a quiet, non-commercial area. While there are drinking fountains, a baby care room, and public toilets on site, there are no convenience stores inside the immediate park. Bring your own snacks and drinks.

Balance Bikes Allowed

The venue is part of an LCSD trial scheme, meaning toddlers are officially permitted to play with balance bikes in the recreation ground daily between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM.

Good to know

Are there swings at the playground?
Yes! Parents frequently highlight that this is one of the few remaining public parks in Hong Kong to preserve classic swings, making it highly popular for younger children.
What are the space-themed features kids can play on?
The park is famous for its creative, non-prescriptive playscapes. Features include a realistic, sloping moon surface dotted with crater-like climbing pits, a classic slide, a spaceship-inspired lounge, a silver and blue rocket capsule labeled Voyager 1, and a dinosaur bone fossil tunnel.
Is the playground shaded from the sun?
Yes, the children's play area is covered by large, mature trees. This provides plenty of natural shade, keeping the playground significantly cooler on hot, sunny days.
Can I easily access the playground with a stroller?
Once inside, there are paved paths and barrier-free facilities (including accessible toilets). However, getting to the park involves navigating a steep incline up King's Park Rise. Taking a taxi directly to the entrance is recommended if you have a heavy stroller or toddlers who tire easily.
Are there public restroom and baby care facilities on site?
Yes. The recreation ground is equipped with public toilets, changing rooms, accessible toilets, and a dedicated baby care room.
