About this place

Sha Tau Kok Children's Playground is a peaceful public outdoor playground managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. Located inside the historic border town of Sha Tau Kok, it provides a quiet escape from Hong Kong's busy urban environments. Families visit to let children play in a rural seaside setting and experience a unique slice of local history close to the border.

Things to know

Frontier Closed Area Permit (CAP) Required

The playground is situated within the Frontier Closed Area. All non-resident visitors must apply online for a Tourism Closed Area Permit (T-CAP) through the Hong Kong Police Force Online Applications Platform at least 3 working days before visiting.

No Private Cars Allowed Inside

Non-resident private vehicles are strictly forbidden from entering the Sha Tau Kok closed area. Self-drive families must park at the designated visitor car park on Sha Ho Road (outside the checkpoint) and proceed on foot or by public transit.

Border Boundary Care

The playground is in close proximity to the Mainland China border and Chung Ying Street. Chung Ying Street remains restricted to local residents; parents must ensure children do not wander past checkpoint boundaries.

Is there a fee to enter the playground?
No, the playground is a public facility managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong and is completely free to enter.

The playground features classic outdoor play structures including swings, slides, a manually powered carousel, and covered seating spaces with picnic tables and benches. There are also fitness equipment sets on-site for senior citizens.
