About this place

This is a small, public outdoor play area managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of Hong Kong. Tucked away in a peaceful and green valley in Pak Kok Kau Tsuen (Pak Kok Old Village), it serves primarily as a local recreational spot. Families, especially those hiking the Lamma Island Family Trail with kids, frequently stop here to let toddlers and young children stretch their legs, play, and burn off energy in a calm, crowd-free natural environment.

Things to know

Bug Protection

Because the playground is nestled in a lush, undeveloped valley, mosquitoes can be highly active. Apply strong insect repellent, especially between April and October.

Bring the Basics

Pack water bottles, sun hats, and a small first-aid kit. There are no immediate convenience stores adjacent to the playground, so you must carry your own supplies.

Beating the Heat

Due to high humidity and lack of heavy artificial shading, the best visiting window is early in the morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:00 PM).

Respect Local Peace

The playground is located directly within a residential village, so parents should ensure children maintain a polite noise level to respect the local community.

Getting here

By MTR

There is no MTR station on Lamma Island. The closest connection is MTR Wong Chuk Hang Station (South Island Line). From Exit B, take a short taxi ride or minibus (such as Green Minibus 4M) to the Aberdeen Promenade. Alternatively, go to MTR Central Station or Hong Kong Station and walk to the Central Ferry Piers.

By Bus

Take any bus route going to the Aberdeen Promenade / Aberdeen Bus Terminus (such as routes 70, 107, 170, or 970X). Alternatively, take a bus to the Central Ferry Piers (such as route 91).

By car

Not possible. Cars are prohibited on Lamma Island. If driving, you must park your vehicle at a public parking garage near the Aberdeen Promenade or Central Ferry Piers on Hong Kong Island before boarding the ferry.

By Walking

From Pak Kok Pier, follow the concrete village footpath on foot through Pak Kok Kau Tsuen. Walk past the Sam Shan Kwok Wong Temple. The walking time from the pier to the playground is approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

Good to know

Is there an entrance fee?
No, the playground is a public pleasure ground managed by the Hong Kong government and is entirely free to enter.
Are there public restrooms and drinking water nearby?
There are no direct commercial facilities or toilets at the playground itself. However, the newly upgraded Pak Kok Pier (reconstructed in late 2022) is a short walk away and features modern public amenities, including a drinking water fountain.
Is the area stroller-accessible?
While the new Pak Kok Pier features ramp access, the concrete pathways leading into the old village are narrow, can have mild slopes, and occasional steps. A lightweight stroller or a baby carrier is highly recommended for parents.
What kind of play equipment is at the playground?
This is a basic, village-level neighborhood play area. Expect classic, low-fuss equipment like safety matting, a small slide, and simple climbing elements. It does not feature the massive multi-level structures found in urban municipal parks.
Can we bring our dog to the play area?
Under LCSD rules, pets are generally not permitted inside the designated children's play boundaries to maintain safety and hygiene.
