Kan Tau Wai Playground
Busy times
About this place
Tucked away in the quiet rural enclave of Ta Kwu Ling, Kan Tau Wai Playground is a free public park managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Unlike the crowded mall-adjacent playgrounds in the city center, it offers basic children's play equipment and an outdoor basketball court set against a peaceful countryside backdrop. Families visit this off-the-beaten-path spot to give their children space to run around, play sports, and enjoy a genuine, slow-paced local village setting.
Things to know
No On-site Restrooms
There are no toilets, changing rooms, or drinking fountains located within this playground. The nearest options are public village toilets in neighboring areas (such as the Fung Wong Wu Village Public Toilet, a 3-minute walk away).
Pack the Basics
There are rarely any shops or convenience stores in the immediate vicinity. Parents should bring plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hats and sunscreen), and a basic first-aid kit.
Prepare for Bugs
Due to the surrounding lush vegetation and rural setting, mosquito repellent is absolutely essential, particularly between April and October.
No Court Lighting
If you plan on playing basketball with older kids, keep in mind that the court has no floodlights, so it becomes dark and unusable once the sun sets.

Location & getting there
Getting here
There is no direct MTR station within walking distance. Take the MTR East Rail Line to Sheung Shui Station or Fanling Station, and then transfer to a local bus or minibus to complete the journey.
Board KMB Route 79K from Sheung Shui (Choi Shek Estate) or Fanling Station and alight at the Kan Tau Wai stop. The playground is a 1-minute walk from the bus stop.
Drive along Heung Yuen Wai Highway and exit toward Ping Che Road or Lin Ma Hang Road. As there is no onsite parking, drivers must find open-air private or village lots nearby.
Taxis can easily drop you off directly in front of the park entrance on Ping Che Road.
If you are exploring nearby historical sights on foot, the playground is easily reachable via paved village paths connecting Tong Fong and Fung Wong Wu villages.
