About this place

Tucked away in the quiet rural enclave of Ta Kwu Ling, Kan Tau Wai Playground is a free public park managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Unlike the crowded mall-adjacent playgrounds in the city center, it offers basic children's play equipment and an outdoor basketball court set against a peaceful countryside backdrop. Families visit this off-the-beaten-path spot to give their children space to run around, play sports, and enjoy a genuine, slow-paced local village setting.

Things to know

No On-site Restrooms

There are no toilets, changing rooms, or drinking fountains located within this playground. The nearest options are public village toilets in neighboring areas (such as the Fung Wong Wu Village Public Toilet, a 3-minute walk away).

Pack the Basics

There are rarely any shops or convenience stores in the immediate vicinity. Parents should bring plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (hats and sunscreen), and a basic first-aid kit.

Prepare for Bugs

Due to the surrounding lush vegetation and rural setting, mosquito repellent is absolutely essential, particularly between April and October.

No Court Lighting

If you plan on playing basketball with older kids, keep in mind that the court has no floodlights, so it becomes dark and unusable once the sun sets.

No. Entry to the playground and use of the basketball court is completely free, with no prior booking required.
Are there baby changing tables or public toilets nearby?
There are no changing facilities or toilets directly in the playground. Parents must use the public village toilets located a few minutes away on foot in the neighboring village areas.
What play facilities are on offer for children?
The park has standard outdoor playground slides, climbing frames, and swings suitable for young children, alongside a single outdoor basketball court for older kids and teens.

Yes, the playground and basketball court areas are flat and paved, making it a decent, quiet spot for kids to practice riding away from heavy road traffic.
