About this place

Founded in 1871, this is Hong Kong's oldest public park, spanning 5.6 hectares on the northern slopes of Victoria Peak. It features a unique blend of historical heritage trails, a lush greenhouse, and outdoor enclosures housing roughly 300 birds, 70+ mammals (mostly primates), and 20 reptiles. Families flock here because it offers an educational, nature-filled escape that is centrally located, stroller-friendly, and completely free to enter.

Things to know

Free Admission

There is absolutely no charge to enter the Green House or any other areas of the gardens.

Steep Slopes and Strollers

The gardens are built on a steep slope. While paths are paved, pushing a stroller uphill can be tiring. Consider bringing a baby carrier.

Combine with the Playground

The Green House is located right next to the children's playground, which features swings, slides, climbing structures, and a sandpit.

Bring Water and Insect Repellent

The greenhouse is warm and humid, and the park has dense foliage. Be sure to bring plenty of water and apply mosquito repellent.

Central Station Exit D2 (10 to 15-minute uphill walk to Albany Road) or Admiralty Station Exit B (15-minute walk through Hong Kong Park).

By Bus

Take bus routes 12, 12A, 12M, 13, 23, 23B, 40, 40M, or 103. Minibus routes 1A, 22, 22S, or 28 also stop nearby.

By car

Drive via Garden Road or Cotton Tree Drive. Drop-off at Albany Road, and park at nearby commercial garages like Coda Plaza.

By Taxi

Taxis can drop you off directly at the Albany Road entrance.

Good to know

Is admission free?

Yes, entry to all areas of the gardens, including the mammalian zoo, the aviary, the greenhouse, and the playground, is completely free of charge.

Can we see giant pandas, tigers, or elephants here?

No, this is not a large-scale commercial zoo. The mammalian collection focus is primarily on primates and smaller species like meerkats and sloths. For giant pandas, you must visit Ocean Park.

Is the park stroller-friendly?

Yes, the pathways are paved and accommodate strollers, but be prepared for steep slopes and inclines due to its location on the northern slopes of Victoria Peak.

Are pets allowed inside?

No, pets and dogs are not allowed inside the park to maintain a safe, low-stress environment for the resident wildlife.

Where can we eat?

There are no restaurants or cafes inside the park, only a basic snack and drink kiosk. Most families either bring their own picnics or walk a short distance downhill into Central for lunch.
