About this place

Located adjacent to the historic, Grade II-listed Hau Wong Temple in Tung Chung, this tranquil outdoor neighborhood playground provides a refreshing, crowd-free alternative to busy commercial play areas. Surrounded by trees, grass, and flowers, it overlooks Tung Chung Bay and Scenic Hill. Local and visiting families come to let their children enjoy classic outdoor play equipment in a relaxed, scenic setting that connects play with local history and nature.

Things to know

Pack the Essentials

Bring full water bottles, sun hats, a small first-aid kit, and plenty of mosquito repellent (especially between April and October) due to the dense surrounding greenery and nearby bay water.

No On-Site Shops

There are no convenience stores or snack shops immediately at the playground or temple. For food, drinks, and shopping, you will need to walk back to Yat Tung Estate (approx. 10 to 15 minutes away).

Beat the Humidity

The best times to visit are early morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:00 PM). The mid-day sun makes the outdoor equipment extremely hot and shade is limited.

Respect the Sacred Area

The playground shares its footprint with an active, historic temple. Parents should guide their children to play respectfully and minimize loud screaming or disruptive play near worship spaces.

Getting here

By MTR

Take the Tung Chung Line to Tung Chung MTR Station. From Exit A or B, the playground is approximately a 20 to 30-minute walk via Fu Tung Estate and Yat Tung Estate along Yu Tung Road. Alternatively, take New Lantao Bus No. 38 from the station's bus terminus to Yat Tung Estate, then walk.

By Bus

Board New Lantao Bus route 38, 37, 39M, E31, or E21A and alight at Yat Tung Estate Bus Terminus. From the terminus, walk along the pedestrian section of Yu Tung Road (west end) and follow the tourist signs pointing toward Hau Wong Temple (about a 10 to 15-minute walk).

By car

Private cars cannot drive directly to or park at the playground. Drivers must navigate to Yat Tung Estate Car Park (8 Yat Tung Street, Tung Chung), park there, and complete the remaining journey on foot (about a 15-minute walk).

By Taxi

You can instruct a taxi driver to drop you off at the western end of Yu Tong Road (near Yat Tung Estate). From there, walk the final 5 minutes along the flat, concrete coastal path leading to the temple and playground.

Good to know

Is there an entrance fee to use the playground?
No, the playground is a public facility managed by the Hong Kong Government (LCSD) and is completely free to enter.
What kind of play equipment is available for children?
It features simple, classic, low-to-the-ground equipment including a climbing frame, small slides, and safety rubber matting suited for toddlers and young children.
Are there public toilets nearby?
Yes, there is a public restroom facility (Hau Wong Temple Public Toilet) directly adjacent to the temple, located just a short walk from the playground area.
Is the playground wheelchair and stroller accessible?
The walk from Yu Tung Road is flat and mostly concrete, making it accessible for strollers. However, because the area transitions into the natural coastline and hiking paths, some surrounding areas may have minor steps or uneven terrain.
