About this place

Yau Tam Mei Playground is an outdoor public leisure facility managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the Hong Kong Government. Located in the quiet, rural village of Yau Tam Mei (also known as Ngau Tam Mei) in Yuen Long, this local spot is primarily used by neighborhood families for outdoor play and physical recreation. It sits directly adjacent to the former (now abandoned) Yau Tam Mei School (a well-known local historic site featured in the TV drama We are the Littles) and the Yau Tam Mei Basketball Court.

Things to know

Bring Insect Repellent

Nestled in a rural village environment, mosquitoes and insects are highly active here. Remember to bring insect repellent, patches, and sunscreen.

No On-site Restrooms

As a small neighborhood playground, there are no public changing rooms or restroom facilities directly on-site. Plan restroom breaks beforehand.

Historical Sightseeing

The park is right next to the historic, abandoned Yau Tam Mei School, founded in 1931. It offers a nostalgic photo opportunity for families.

Barrier-Free Access

The playground features improved barrier-free pathways, making it easy and accessible for families pushing strollers.

Good to knowGeneral guidance , know this venue? add detail

Is there a fee?
No. Public playgrounds in Hong Kong are free to enter and run by the LCSD.
What ages is this best for?
Most LCSD playgrounds suit ages 2 to 12, with separate toddler and older kid equipment. The exact setup varies by site.
Are there toilets nearby?
Usually yes. Most LCSD parks have public toilets within a five minute walk, and the nearest MTR station is a good backup.
What is the best time to go?
Mornings before noon are cooler and quieter, and late afternoon after the school rush works well too. In summer, avoid roughly noon to 3pm.
