About this place

Originally opened in 1981, this historic rooftop playground is situated on the 2nd floor outdoor platform of the Tsuen Wan Market building. Created as the first rooftop children's playground in the New Territories, it remains a quiet, hidden public space managed by the LCSD, ideal for quick outdoor play, stretching, or a casual game of table tennis.

Things to know

Accessibility

Located on the rooftop (2/F level), it is accessible via the main building's public elevator or eight separate staircases starting from the ground floor. The elevator exit features a tactile guide path and a braille directory map.

Environment and Hygiene

Because it sits directly on top of an active, traditional wet market built in 1981, the surrounding alleyways and market floors below are bustling, narrow, and often smell of fresh meat and seafood. Some parents find the environment leading up to the roof to be a bit overwhelming.

Lack of Shade

The playground is fully open-air and has very little tree canopy or shade structures. Mid-day visits during summer can be intensely hot, so sunscreen, hats, and water are highly recommended.

Recent Renovations

The rooftop's safety flooring and outdoor lighting were completely renovated and upgraded between December 2024 and February 2025, making the safety padding and lighting relatively fresh and clean.
