About this place

Trio Beach Playground is a public, open-air children's play area situated directly on the shores of Trio Beach (Sam Sing Wan) in Sai Kung. Managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), this spot is highly favored by families who want to combine classic playground fun with beachside relaxation. Because it is cut off from direct road access, it maintains a secluded, clean, and tranquil environment. Kids can alternate between swimming in some of Hong Kong's highest-rated clean waters, building sandcastles, and climbing on the beachside play structures.

Things to know

Avoid the Midday Heat

The playground equipment sits in an open-air area with minimal natural shade and can become very hot. The best times to play are early morning (8:00 AM to 10:00 AM) or late afternoon (after 4:00 PM).

Bring Mosquito Repellent

Because the playground is nestled within a lush, forested peninsula, mosquitoes and sandflies can be highly active, especially from April to October.

Pack Your Own Food and Drinks

There is a small refreshment kiosk on-site selling basic bottled drinks and snacks, but it does not serve full meals. It is highly recommended to pack substantial lunches and water.

Keep Your Boat Ticket

If you take the kaito ferry from Pak Sha Wan Pier, keep your return ticket safe. Ensure you board the correct boat for your return, as different operators use color-coded flags and do not accept competitors' tickets.

Getting here

By MTR

Take the MTR to Choi Hung Station (Exit C2) and board Minibus 1A, or Hang Hau Station (Exit B1) and board Minibus 101M. Alight at Pak Sha Wan, walk to the pier, and catch a 10-minute kaito boat.

By Bus

Take KMB Route 92 from Diamond Hill, or Citybus Route 792M from Tseung Kwan O. Alight at Pak Sha Wan for the kaito boat, or Tai Chung Hau to begin the hiking route.

By car

Drive to Pak Sha Wan Pier on Sai Kung Highway. Since there is no direct road access to the beach, park at the public metered spaces or nearby private parking, then take the kaito boat.

By Taxi

Request the taxi driver to drop you off at Pak Sha Wan Pier, then board the kaito boat directly to Trio Beach.

By Walking

From Che Keng Tuk Road, follow the marked, partially shaded hiking path across the peninsula. The trail is about 3 km long and takes 40 to 50 minutes.

Good to know

How do we actually get to the playground with kids and beach gear?
The most family-friendly option is to take a 10 to 15 minute kaito (sampan) ride from Pak Sha Wan Pier directly to Trio Beach. Alternatively, you can take an easy, mostly paved 30 to 45 minute hike starting from Che Keng Tuk Road.
Are there public toilets and places to wash off sand nearby?
Yes, this venue features fully equipped public toilets, changing rooms, and shower facilities, as well as barrier-free amenities.
Can we have a family barbecue near the playground?
Yes, there is a public BBQ area right next to the beach with 20 government-provided BBQ pits. You must bring your own charcoal, food, and utensils.
Is the water safe for toddlers and young children to swim in?
Yes, the beach is in a sheltered bay with very gentle waves and is consistently rated Grade 1 (Good) water quality. Avoid the right side of the beach as it has sharper underwater rocks.
How much cash should I bring for the boat ride?
Kaito rides usually cost around HKD 15 to 20 for a single trip, or HKD 30 for a round-trip ticket. Operators only accept cash.
